Grain
State: open/active · Aliases: kind, capability kind
Definition
Section titled “Definition”The kind of structure a capability names, stored as kind: system,
subsystem, service, workflow, component, datastore, external, module, adapter, generated or page.
Every capability can have one.
Contrast
Section titled “Contrast”Not a function. Grain is a classification that applies to any capability;
a function is one of eight particular capabilities, each of which happens to have the grain
subsystem. Not the audience, and not the depth in the
containment tree.
A capability with no kind is ungraded. “Subsystem” is a grain; “Observe” is a function.
