The file’s parsed object, unvalidated and with every key intact.
This is the read half of an edit that preserves what this version does not
understand. set and unset must apply to THIS, not to the validated shape,
because validation drops unknown keys — so writing a validated document back
would silently delete a setting a newer version had written. null when the
file does not exist.
